My Hero
When I think of heroes
My mother comes to mind
Because she was
And will always be
A hero in my
Eyes
This lady I call hero
My mom, my rock
Had a rough life
She was a young mother
To five
At the age
Of twenty nine
She was not feeling well
So to the Doctor
She had to go
And there she was dealt
An awful blow
She was told,
she had cancer
Her chances
For survival
Were not good
She had just had a baby
The last she would have
Now she had a fight
A fight for her life,
on her hands
A fight she fought
To the very end
My tears fall
As I think about
Back then
I watched her go from a beautiful
Healthy young lady
Right before my eyes
To not much more,
than a bag of bones
As the cancer ate away
At her insides
She was weak and tired
Cancer was taking it’s toll
But she never stopped,
being a mom
God I miss her so
She took care of us kids
No matter how bad she felt
We always came first
Her children were her world
Some days I’d watch her
And see her wince in pain
But if she caught you looking
She’d start smiling
Again
She never complained
Not once
Never was woe is me
She fought that cancer
With grace and dignity
I watched her hair fall out
Right before my eyes
But through it all
Rarely did I see
Tears fall from her eyes
I wonder as a child of eleven
How someone could be so strong
How could she do all she did
And never complain about pain
Not once
How could she smile and be happy
When she knew the end was near
How could she look fine to me
When inside she was dying
How do you gather
Your children around you
And tell them this awful news
That mommy is sick
So sick inside
That very soon
She will be taken from you
How can you look,
at your children
And know
You won’t be here
To see them grow
How can you look,
at your children
And know
You have to leave them behind
What does that do to your mind
Not only was she fighting cancer
She was making plans you see
She was teaching us,
what we needed to know
Before she had to go
She told us daddy would need us
We had to be strong for him
We had to help with the little ones
Five kids was a lot for him
This Lady was my hero
For so many reasons why
She taught me so much
About strength and courage
Before she died
She showed me
What a real hero was
Not someone with a powers,
and a cape
Those are make believe
To me this woman was a saint
I’m not sure
I could do what she did
Fight for my life
And while she was doing it
Still be a loving mother
And a wife
She had to be so strong
With her super powers
You see
that is why
She was and will always be
A true hero
To me
At the age of thirty one
my mother lost this fight
at the age if thirty one
my mom my hero
died
