THE STAND

Upon yon fence post
Ye set in silent keep
Why do you linger
In silence so deep

Who or what
So frightens you
With unclouded skies
Of deep cerulean blue

Is our Lord Raven
Now approaching
Is it horror ye saw
Hear the Raven’s caw

In panic, ye await
For what
For something that
May not be

For in your dread of the
Unknown
You’ll surely die
And you wonder why

Lord Raven,
In silence has won
Your soul, you lost
And; at what cost

Your own terror
Your lack of courage
You defeated yourself
That is the horror
