American Dreams

Mile Marker MCCXLIV

Descort Verse

The young and restless
Living in a perfect world
American Dreams -

'Together we can touch the sun,
committing to the number one,
only love needed once begun,
second to none, second to none.'

We started with nothing but dreams and a way,
love giving direction both of us could see.
Ambitions pursuing the start of each day,
climbing rugged mountains of reality.
Though failures were many still molded the clay,
achieving perfection but no longer free.
A circle's conclusion having final say,
deceptive salvation future's history. . . .

Pinnacle of life
Possessing it all
Shadows on the hills.

No time remains for love to share,
profession demanding it's price.
Must feed the cross chosen to bear,
continue sliding on the ice.
Precious moments becoming rare,
success once more tossing the dice.
No time remains for love to share,
profession demanding it's price.
Cracks in the wall cannot repair,
temptations question and entice.
Neglected love seeking advice,
strangers trying new masks to wear.
No time remains for love to share. . .

A moment of lust
Quickly turns to daily need
Lie to each other
Guilty feelings cannot show
weakness justified with grey.

Extinguish the flame that love has begun,
triangles reveal the secrets of two.
Extinguish the flame.
Started with nothing but belief in one,
perfection finding in dreams that came true.
Trust though now something neither one can do,
extinguish the flame. . . .

Stones throwing in blame
for the sins
committed by both.

How many will listen when choosing their fate,
accepting the simple rewards in disguise.
Measuring self status to others relate,
when happiness equals illusion wealth buys.
continued frustration sarcastic debate,
Increasing suspicions society lies.
Forgotten the happiness each other known,
committing suicide to existence shown. . . .

Two broken hearts pursue the night,
suffer consequences of need.
Temptations turn on treason's light,
two broken hearts pursue the night.
Review a mirror's honest sight,
no ambition left to succeed.
Two broken heats pursue the night,
suffer consequences of need.

Each passing year go on alone,
no longer caught up in the game.
both lying beneath weathered stone,
Forgiving shame, forgiving shame:

Remember the laughter with innocence share,
ignoring such precious time hung on the wall.
Regretting the seasons no longer for sale,
now crippled with aging in wait for death's call.
Confessing the sins of a lifetime review,
believing the darkness made only for two.
Accepting what's written pay price as agreed,
too late lesson learning love is all you need.

Deathbed confessions
Never thought would end this way
American dreams.
