' LOVE ALMOST DENIED '

What is love
But a mystery
Is it something you can touch
Something you can see

Is it dancing stars
Emotion of the heart
Infatuation with beauty, a moment of passion
Love soon to depart

Love at first sight
Fear, of being alone
Does it happen overnight
Or, does it take time to grow

I write, you see
Fore, I was married before
Love for her, she wanted free
A love soon, to close the door

A broken heart and shattered dreams
Left alone, nowhere to go
Life seemed no longer worthwhile
But then who was to know

Not a penny to my name
With my nine year old son
I had no idea
Life had just begun

Depression and anger ruled my life
What was I to do, I had no clue
Slipping deeper into darkness
Then, I met you

We met by chance
Or, was it fate
You entered my life
Nearly to late

I asked you out
For our first date
You had something to do
Didn’t want to be late

Again, rejection
I hung up the phone
That feeling of hopelessness
Being left all alone

Day after day
Time went by
Constantly brought together
And wondering why

Not knowing how
Love would begin
Not knowing why
Was it worth a try

Time went by
And slowly past
We had some feelings
But would it last

You opened your heart
You took me in
I couldn’t let go of the past
It wore us thin

You gave of yourself
Waiting, so long
I was blind to your love
And treated you wrong

Years went by
You stayed by my side
True love I was searching for
I almost denied

I had nothing to give
But you believed in me
You saw something in me
That I couldn’t see

You stood by my side
While I struggled through
My son, you took as your own
Patiently waiting for me, to accept you

You helped me grow
You helped me learn
What love really was
For what I’ve always yearned

I remember, everyone laughed
This “country pumpkin”
A lady of class
This relationship, would never last

When your heart still races
When I come home
How much you miss me
When you’re alone

When you’re around other men
And you still see my face
You come home and tell me
They can’t take my place

I thank you for coming
Into my life
Giving so much
And becoming my wife

For that “magical moment”
When you opened my eyes
When I found my true love
That I almost denied
